Candy Cane Cookie Recipe
Candy Cane Cookies
1 cup of 1/2 shortening & 1/2 butter
1 cup of sifted icing sugar
1 1/2 tsp. Almond extract
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
Mix all this together - then stir in:
2 1/2 cups of sifted flour
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Baking powder
Separate the dough into halves
Blend red food coloring into one half of the dough (add a few drops at a time until desired colour)
Roll a tsp. ball of each colour into strips about 4" long
Place strips side by side, pressing lightly together, then twist like a rope.
Curve top down to shape a candy cane handle.
Bake @ 350° for 9 minutes - Perfect!
Once cooled: crunch up candy canes into small crumble.
Make white icing and drizzle over the cookies then sprinkle the candy cane crumble over the icing.
Cookies are delicate so be careful when storing them.
